The incidence of HDL-C hypolipidemia in the over 65 years old group was higher than that of the ≤65 age group (HR = 1.276, P = 0.009). The incidence of HDL-C hypolipidemia increased with increasing BMI (HR = 1.030, P = 0.002), TG (HR = 1.321, P = 0.001) and UN (HR = 1.054, P = 0.019), while falling with increasing HDL-C in the baseline year (HR = 0.002, P< 0.001). Conclusions: Men, aged over 65, with high BMI were at the highest risk of developing HDL-C hypolipidemia. Measures should be taken to prevent HDL-C hypolipidemia even for healthy urban adults whose blood biochemical indicators were in the normal range when their level of TG, UN and HDL-C are closed to the border of the normal value range.]]> Wed 26 Oct 2022 12:46:26 AEDT ]]> Diet quality and 6-year risk of overweight and obesity among mid-age Australian women who were initially in the healthy weight range https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:29593 Wed 24 Nov 2021 15:52:55 AEDT ]]> Cohort profile: the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health (ALSWH) 1989-95 cohort https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:33196 Wed 12 Sep 2018 11:28:03 AEST ]]> Does traumatic brain injury lead to criminality? After adjusting for confounders, diabetic subjects were 49% (cause-specific hazard ratio (cHR) = 1.49, 95% CI: 1.37, 1.62) more likely to develop kidney failure than non-diabetic subjects. Albuminuria categories A3 and A2 were, respectively, 3.40 (95% CI: 3.07, 3.76) and 1.71 (95% CI: 1.53, 1.92) higher risk of kidney failure when compared to A1. For each albumin category, death rate increased as albuminuria increased particularly in diabetic subjects, which was approximately 2 times higher in A3 compared to A1. Considering GFR category, it gradually increased from G1 to G4 and sharply increased from G4 to G5 in both non-diabetic and diabetic subjects. This study has quantified CKD progression in an Asian population within ordinary practice. Diabetic subjects progress through GFR and albuminuria categories and reach kidney failure about twice as rapidly as non-diabetic subjects.]]> Wed 11 Apr 2018 10:07:38 AEST ]]> The inflammation hypothesis of depression: cross sectional associations, temporal relationships and the confounds of comorbidity https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:14030 Wed 11 Apr 2018 10:05:47 AEST ]]> Prevalence and survival associated with pulmonary hypertension after mitral valve replacement: National echocardiography database of Australia study https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:50848 Wed 09 Aug 2023 09:31:56 AEST ]]> Cancer incidence and cancer death in relation to tobacco smoking in a population-based Australian cohort study https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:48997 35 cigarettes/day. Lung cancer risk was lower with quitting at any age but remained higher than never-smokers for quitters aged >25y. By age 80y, an estimated 48.3% of current-smokers (41.1% never-smokers) will develop cancer, and 14% will develop lung cancer, including 7.7% currently smoking 1-5 cigarettes/day and 26.4% for >35 cigarettes/day (1.0% never-smokers). Cancer risk for Australian smokers is significant, even for 'light' smokers. These contemporary estimates underpin the need for continued investment in strategies to prevent smoking uptake and facilitate cessation, which remain key to reducing cancer morbidity and mortality worldwide.]]> Wed 03 May 2023 12:03:16 AEST ]]> Alcohol intake and total mortality in 142 960 individuals from the MORGAM Project: a population-based study https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:45662 20 g/day was associated with a 13% (95% CI = 7–20%) increase in the risk of total mortality. Comparable findings were observed for cardiovascular (CV) deaths. With regard to cancer, drinking up to 10 g/day was not associated with either mortality risk reduction or increase, while alcohol intake > 20 g/day was associated with a 22% (95% CI = 10–35%) increased risk of mortality. The association of alcohol with fatal outcomes was similar in men and women, differed somewhat between countries and was more apparent in individuals preferring wine, suggesting that benefits may not be due to ethanol but other ingredients. Mediation analysis showed that high-density lipoprotein cholesterol explained 2.9 and 18.7% of the association between low alcohol intake and total as well as CV mortality, respectively. Conclusions: In comparison with life-time abstainers, consuming less than one drink per day (nadir at 5 g/day) was associated with a reduced risk of total, cardiovascular and other causes mortality, except cancer. Intake of more than two drinks per day was associated with an increased risk of total, cardiovascular and especially cancer mortality.]]> Wed 02 Nov 2022 15:52:10 AEDT ]]> Treatment effectiveness of alemtuzumab compared with natalizumab, fingolimod, and interferon beta in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis: a cohort study https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:34542 Tue 26 Mar 2019 15:11:01 AEDT ]]> The reciprocal relationship between physical activity and depression: Does age matter? https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:47671 Tue 24 Jan 2023 15:54:44 AEDT ]]> Effect of immunosuppression for primary renal disease on the risk of cancer in subsequent renal transplantation: a population-based retrospective cohort study https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:19941 Tue 18 Aug 2015 11:14:17 AEST ]]> Effects of the Connections program on return-to-custody, mortality and treatment uptake among people with a history of opioid use: Retrospective cohort study in an Australian prison system https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:53677 Tue 09 Jan 2024 12:52:55 AEDT ]]> Identifying the energy gap: magnitude and determinants of 5-year weight gain in midage women https://nova.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:18 5 kg over 5 years) were highest for women who quit smoking (odds ratio = 2.94; 95% confidence interval, 2.17, 3.96). Average heavy consumption definitions of tolerance were most strongly associated with persistent AUD (OR = 6.66, P = 0.001; OR = 4.65, P = 0.004) but not associated with new-onset AUD (Ps > 0.05). Conclusions: Initial drink and percentage change thresholds appear to improve the efficacy of change-based tolerance as an indicator for new-onset alcohol use disorder diagnosis in self-report surveys of young adults.
